The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure About Size Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.

Social Media Backlash

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification versus the original listing because of the remapping.

The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with similar services.

The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.

Sizing System Changes

Previously, the measurements included one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.

Required Changes

Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.

Service Background

The platform boasts over 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
