The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States on five Europeans working on fighting online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
